Short update

This is gonna be short, since I’m pushing close to 10pm and I’m hungry/tired…

But fret not, I’ll upload a post soon on September (and August?).

Also, I’ve updated the Tz Phone Tricks page to reflect the new Zain rates. (8 Tsh/MB for some of the plans! That’s less than a penny!!)

Looking ahead, I’m going to go be pcv of a week during PST, doing the ICT sessions. Hopefully that will go well; I’m just about done with preparing my presentations. There’s going to be pod sessions focusing on hardware and a 3 hour cct session focusing mostly on software with a smattering of other related tech issues (like mobile broadband and getting solar panels). Should be fun, although I’m not relishing the thought of leaving site for yet another week. After that is shadow week, so with any luck i’ll only be getting a pair of shadowers (instead of the 4 last go around). I requested either the TC pair or some ICT volunteers… Not sure what the math/science pcts would do at my site, though there are rumours my school is going to start teaching diploma level math/sciences in the near future. Apparently they were supposed to start this year but MoEVT had some budgeting issues (like forgetting to budget for it).
Shadow week coincides with review week, as annual exams are upon us. I told my 2A classes I wasn’t planning on reviewing in class, and will just give them a course outline and study guide so they can review on their own–that brought many angry glares, so maybe I should rethink that? But I REALLY need to keep moving in the syllabus; 16 weeks of teaching is the reality here, despite the teaching load on paper being almost double that (which is still not long enough to finish the syllabus). I’m undecided on whether or not I should do revision for the 1Dip students, as I’m in a similar time crunch with them. My goal with them is to finish all the theory this year and only do practical next year until 3 weeks before NECTAs. We have some classroom allocation issues so that might be the only way to go about it.

What else… Thanksgiving is coming up, another Thanksgiving in Tz. Missionaries in Kondoa are hosting a shindig, but I probably have school during that time, or at least, invigilation. Thinking about leaving site for Xmas and doing it with other volunteers, but we’ll see how the money thing goes.
